Raul Aguirre Jr.
As far back as he can remember, Raul has loved using drawing to tell fantastic stories populated with compelling characters.
After high school Raul entered the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at The Laguna College of Art and Design where he received 2 years worth of solid Fine Arts foundation instruction while simultaneously studying animation at Dave Master’s Rowland Animation.
In 1994 Raul was recruited by Walt Disney Feature Animation where he spent the next 8 years as an animation artist. He served as Legendary Master Animator Glen Keane’s right hand and protégé for the Hybrid 2D/CG character Long John Silver on the Disney Feature Treasure Planet. Raul had the distinct honor of being the last Person Trained by Glen Keane in Traditional Hand Drawn Animation and proudly shares that knowledge in his classes.
After Disney Raul has directed/supervised animation and storyboards for many projects at just as many studios. Family Guy at FOX, Film Roman Studios, Showtime Networks, Moonscoop Productions, Splash Ent, Titmouse, and Frederator to name a few. It was at Nickelodeon that he made his directorial debut on his own creation the animated short ‘Hero Heights.”
Raul has self published 2 comics and independently produced his own Animation Instruction DVD. He has also exhibited his fine art paintings in various group shows and one solo show in a couple of different LA galleries.
Most recently Raul wrapped storyboards on both Camp WWE for Stoopid Buddy Productions and Animals for Starburns and HBO. Currently Raul teaches History and Principles of Animation at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects and continues development of his own animation properties.
He is also the creator and host of the popular Man vs. Art Podcast. A show specifically geared towards informing, inspiring, and entertaining artists while they toil away in their studios. Raul also does speaking engagements, conferences, lectures, and workshops on how to walk a more prosperous, productive, purposeful path in the arts.
